The Daily Graphic commends the Bank of Ghana for taking steps to introduce a deposit insurance scheme. The paper says its positive development will enhance confidence in the banking sector and help keep the financial system stronger and beneficial. The paper however urges the central bank to tackle the concerns raised over the independence of the Ghana Deposit insurance corporation.

The Ghanaian Times refers to a report by the Auditor General this week, which says the country would have lost a colossal amount of money through the attitude of some public officials but for the timely intervention of auditors. It cited poor record keeping, weak internal auditing, non-certification of liabilities and lack of effective monitoring of contracts as the very predominant ones that hampered productivity. The Times says the attitudes of many towards the environment have nurtured preventable diseases like Cholera and dysentery. The paper says such attitudes must be checked because the nation is bleeding as a result.
