GAWU wants national holiday for farmers reversed The General Agriculture Workers Union (GAWU), says the declaration of Farmers Day as public holiday has no significance to farmers. A statement signed by its General Secretary, Edward Kareweh, said farmers per their nature of work, do not need a specific day through legislation as holiday. The statement said the holiday does not add or do anything to ease the numerous challenges confronting farmers yet the country loses millions of Ghana cedis. It is GAWU’s request that government abolishes the farmers’ day holiday and use the money to be generated on that day to support agriculture. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
