Coalition expresses concern over implementation of education sector policies

The Ghana National Education Coalition, GNECC, has commended the government for initiatives stated in the 2018 budget to improve education.
 
The Coalition mentioned the review of the basic level curriculum, implementing the common national assessment system, taking over and expanding the Complementary Basic Education, bill among others. 

In a statement signed by the National Chairman of GNECC, Bright Appiah, the Coalition however raised concern about government's approach in implementing some of the education sector policies.

It made reference to the inadequate dormitory facilities due to the free SHS, compelling students as young as 12-14years to rent hostels, worsening the economic plight of parents.
 
The statement mentioned the unhygienic conditions in some schools, forcing some of them to defecate in polythene bags.

The Coalition suggests credible alternatives for financing social intervention programmes.

This it stated, should include widening the tax base, improving governance and accountability in the use of existing resources in classrooms, and independent monitoring and tracking of spending.
