School Feeding programme to be expanded to cover over 2 million pupils The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection says it will from next term, embark on a 30 percent expansion of the School Feeding programme from one million six hundred pupils, to two million one hundred pupils. This expansion has already been catered for in the 2018 Budget. The Sector Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba who said this in Parliament, said the programme has received GH¢100 million from the Ministry of Finance, to clear arrears for second term of the 2016/2017 academic year. She said funds for the remaining 56 days in the third term of the 2016/2017 are being processed by the Controller and Accountant Generals Department, and will be disbursed to the Caterers as soon as the Gender Ministry receives the funds. Madam Otiko Djaba noted that her Ministry is developing a legal framework to establish an Authority, which will ensure reliable and consistent funds for the School Feeding Programme. Madam Afisa Djaba said 30 percent slot for School Feeding Caterers has been reserved for the Ministry and traditional leaders. This slot will enable the Gender Ministry and the traditional leaders, to have a stake in the people who are employed as caterers for the programme. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
