Impress on students to learn hard and pass well- Kaleo Headmistress to Parents The Headmistress of Kaleo Senior High Technical School, Pognaa Patricia Gyereh says though the free Senior High School, (SHS) has relieved parents of some financial burdens it is necessary for parents to impress it on their children to be stable in school and learn hard in order to pass well. She made the observation at the annual general PTA meeting of the School at Kaleo in the Upper West Region. Setting the tone for the event, the Headmistress, Pognaa Gyereh told the parents that the essence of the meeting was to discuss issues concerning the educational development of the children you have entrusted into our hands and urged them to freely express their views. In this report, GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo says the Headmistress announced that some second and third year students including those who have completed still owe school fess and PTA dues. Pognaa Gyereh stated that for instance, the 2017 final year students left a debt of 53 thousand and 18 Ghana Cedis excluding PTA and staff incentive. She continued that 41 students as at November 7, 2017, had paid eight thousand and 208 Ghana Cedis and their results had since been released by WAEC. Pognaa Gyereh therefore entreated parents to endeavor to pay off the debt to ensure the smooth running of the school. Touching on communication, the Headmistress pointed out that management has provided cell phones to housemasters and mistresses for students to use when there was the need but some students were still keeping cell phones against school rules. The student population of the School is one thousand 458. Out of the number, 606 them are in first year with 35 others being repeaters in year one. According to the Headmistress, the School requested for 470 students for the 2017/2018 academic year but the computerized school selection and placement system (CSSPS) placed 660 students. The Upper West Regional Director of Education, Evans Kpebah stated that there was the need for PTA members to be educated on their role in running of the school. Mr. Kpebah alleged among others that Mr. James Wor led PTA executive had not rendered accounts to members and had also disbursed funds without a budget. In an interview Mr. James Wor, he described the allegations against him as false and a victimization tactic emanating from his insistence that the right things were done as far as the expenses of the PTA were concerned. Mr. Wor said his administration has undertaken a number of development projects in the school as a result of prudent financial management. He mentioned the building of a staff bungalow, renovation of headmistress’ bungalow, drilling of a borehole and a students’ hostel which is almost completed as some of the projects during his tenure. The meeting elected Anthony Abudu as the PTA Chairman with Edward Sontumah as his vice. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
