Manhyia modifies aspects of final funeral rites for late Asantehemaa The Manhyia Palace has modified aspects of the final funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afua Serwaa Kobi Ampem, which begins from 1st to 15th December. Addressing the media in Kumasi, the Asantehene’s Chief Linguist, Nana Poku Agyemang, explained that the Funeral Planning Committee has taken into account the fact that the event will be taking place around the Christmas festivities during which traders and hawkers do brisk business. In this regard, the Manhyia Palace has decided that shops and stores operating along the route to be used by the Asantehene when he moves from the Manhyia Palace to Pampaso and the Bantama Royal Mausoleum will not be allowed to open on the 4th and 5th of December. Nana Opoku Agyeman further explained that shops which will be affected during the time Otumfuo Osei Tutu will be undertaking the traditional journey could open to the public after his passage. He said areas to be affected are ‘Dr. Mensah’, Kejetia, Adum, Krofrom and within the vicinity of the Manhyia Palace. The Chief Linguist also said on 5th December, the Asantehene will be sending the Abusua Krowa to the Bremang Royal Mausoleum and cautioned people who live around Manhyia, Kejetia and the Suame roundabout to Bremang to be indoors between 9pm and 2am. He clarified however that, people who live outside those areas will not be affected.
