Editorials today feature only the Ghanaian Times. The paper discusses the current happenings in Zimbabwe. The Times believes it is clear that many people in that country are not happy with the long stay in power by President Mugabe. The paper therefore, supports moves by countries in the Southern African Region to continue to engage in negotiations with the military for peace to prevail. It says the lesson from this is that it is not good for one person to be in power for too long, especially when it becomes clear that the long stay is opposed by the people from whom power to govern is derived. The Times believes that as President, Mr. Mugabe has done what he could, especially during the early years of his reign and at 93, he must be prepared to say goodbye and allow others to continue since he cannot do it alone. The paper urges the military to treat him with the respect he deserves and do things in a manner that will persuade him to step down peacefully.
