Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda outdoor REDD Plus strategies 

Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda have outdoored their plans to donor partners on the preparation towards Reduction of Deforestation and Forest Degradation, REDD Plus. 

Launching their REDD Plus strategies, the Minister of State in Charge of Environment in Uganda, Mart Kitutu noted that the countries have witnessed serious degradation of their forests the past 15 years than ever before and efforts to protect what is left and reclaim the degraded forests will address the effects of Climate Change and eco-system balance. 

Their strategies were outdoored at the climate Change conference in Germany.  

Deforestation and Forest degradation presents some of the most compelling climate change challenges in the world. The challenging in Africa are even more daunting. 

Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda have lost significant forest due to high rate of deforestation. The impacts present significant threats to livelihood of communities, ecosystem services as well as water resources in the economies of the agrarian countries. 

It is in this direction that the three countries launched the strategies of Reducing Emissions from Degradation and Forest Degradation, REDD Plus in Germany during the climate conference. 

The Minister of State in charge of Environment in Uganda, Mary Kitutu talked about the importance of the strategy in addressing climate change.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu talked about factors of deforestation and what is being done to address that with the REDD Plus Strategy.

The Assistant Secretary General of the UNDP, Mandy Martinez-Soliman mentioned five key measures that will position REDD Plus in the countries development and the climate change discourse. 

They include enabling policies with legal instruments to address drivers of deforestation, increase capacity building and south-south cooperation.
