KATH Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing School in dire need of infrastructure 

The Principal of Post-Basic Nursing School in Ear, Nose and Throat of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in Kumasi, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Shaban has called for an adequate accommodation facility to house over increasing applicants who want to specialise in ENT.  

These applicants are often denied admission due to inadequate class room and accommodation and has therefore appealed to key stakeholders  to address infrastructure deficit to enhance academic performance. 

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Shaban disclosed this at the 2nd Matriculation ceremony of Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing School in Kumasi.  

The Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing School was established fifteen years ago by the Ministry of Health and is mandated to specialize in these three areas. 

The programme is supervised by the Nurses and Midwivery Council of Ghana which awards Advanced Diploma in Nursing to those who graduate successfully. Alhaji AbdulRahman commended the ministry of Health for its continuous support in investing in special healthcare.

He however urged government to address their key infrastructural challenges.

In a speech read for him,the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr.Emmanuel Tenkorang said nursing care demands commitment; diligence, selflessness, adherence, obedience, and above all intelligence. 

These qualities according to him are lacking in this generation of newly trained nurses and they are not able to render the proper nursing care as expected.

The School received 113 applications this year (2017), out of which 65 were admitted due to unavailability of infrastructure.
