Vice President Bawumia cuts sod for new cement factory

A new cement factory is being constructed at the Dawa Industrial Enclave on the Tema - Aflao road, under a joint venture partnership between Ghana and Iran. When completed, it will have the capacity to produce about 600,000 tonnes of cement per year. 

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who cut the sod to start the construction of the factory, was happy the project is taking place at the time of government's One District One Factory initiative. He stressed government's commitment to partner the private sector for development. 

The 30 million dollar cement factory is a partnership between Ghana and Iran. The Iranians have 90% stake with the 10% for Ghana. 

The Managing Director of ILAM Cement, Mojtaba Frounchi, was optimistic that the factory will further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries. He spoke through an interpreter.
 
Vice President Bawumia indicated that the construction of the cement factory will not only spark competition in the industry but also create employment for Ghanaians. 

He assured investors of government's commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. 

He particularly urged the Iranian investors to explore other business opportunities in Ghana. 

The factory is expected to be completed in 2019.
