VEEP urges Iranian gov't to assist Ghana in constructing dams

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the Iranian government to assist Ghana to construct dams across the country to realise the One District One Dam initiative. 

He said government is poised to transform the economy using the agricultural sector as a catalyst. 

Vice President Bawumia made the call when a twenty member delegation led by the Iranian Minister for Agriculture, Mahmoud Hujjati, paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff. 

The visit by the Iranian delegation coincides with the ongoing Ghana-Iran Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation Session.

The Iranian Minister for Agriculture, Mahmoud Hujjati, said Iran is ready to sign unto any form of cooperation with government in its quest to transform the agricultural sector. 

Mr Hujjati commended Ghana for its sound political and economic environment which is key to investors. 

Vice President Bawumia lauded the Iranian government for its continuous support to Ghana's economy. 

He indicated that the time has come for both countries to move away from the signing of MOU's to actual projects especially infrastructure. 

Dr Bawumia said Ghana will tap into the expertise of Iran in the construction of dams across the country as the country embarks on mechanising agriculture. 

He reiterated the importance of strengthening economic ties between the two countries in other key sectors of the economy for mutual benefit.

Vice President Bawumia used the occasion to commiserate with Iran on the earthquake that hit the country over the weekend claiming more than 400 lives.
