Gender Parity: President Akufo-Addo urges African leaders to lead way

President Akufo-Addo has asked African leaders to extend blanket protection to all women and ensure that their rights become the bedrock of equality and social justice.

Speaking at the launch of Gender and Development Initiative for Africa, President Akufo-Addo said Africa must be ahead in the promotion of Gender equality with women in key position. 

The African Union early this year appointed President Akufo-Addo as the AU leader for Gender Development to promote gender parity and the socio economic development of women and girls in Africa. 

The Gender and Development Initiative for Africa, the brain child of President Akufo-Addo is to empower women through the private sector and increase their participation in politics. 

This will ensure gender parity and fulfilment of the AU agenda 2063 and the UN SDG 5. President Akufo-Addo said women's participation in business and politics on the African Continent will deal with wide spread poverty, ignorance and disease.

Liberian President, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf charged leaders to promote the interest of women to enable them to fulfill their ambitions.

The Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba said an initiative to get Kayaye out of the streets will soon be outdoored. 

She encouraged women to take up leadership roles in the socio-economic development of the nation.
