People of Somaliland elect new leader after seven years delay

After a seven-year wait, the people of Somaliland are voting today to elect a new leader. 

The new President is being chosen after inadequate funding; political disagreements and drought caused the polls to be delayed for several years.

As an emerging country, citizens say they are hopeful, the world can appreciate their democracy, so it is important to work towards a process that is fair and transparent; GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe looks at the history of Somalis and the stakes in this year's Election.
