Ban on Small Scale Mining extended for 3 months 

Government has extended the ban on galamsey activities for three more months. This follows cabinet approval.  

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu who announced this to the media during a tour to some galamsey site in Kyebi which are being reclaimed said the extension of the ban has been communicated to the Small Scale Miners Association.  

He appealed to the association to assist government to stop the activities of illegal mining.   

Government early this year placed a six month moratorium on the activities of illegal mining following a national crusade to save the country's water bodies and the wanton destruction of the forest cover. 

The six month moratorium expired in October with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources giving a hint of a possible extension.

During a tour of some galamsey sites in Kyebi, Mr Amewu said the government has extended the ban for three more months.

He indicated that until the country's river bodies regain their natural state the ban will not be lifted.

Mr Amewu appealed to the Small scale mining companies to assist government to stop the activities of illegal miners so they can go back to work.
