Nine children drown as boat capsizes in DRC lake- officials

At least nine children have died after a canoe capsized on Lake Tanganyika in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

Lake Tanganyika is the longest freshwater lake in the world and is bounded by four countries, DR Congo, Burundi, Zambia and Tanzania.
 
Reports say the motorised vessel left the town of Kalemie and was heading for the port of Wimbi when the accident occurred.

Officials say "Of the 21 passengers aboard, nine were killed, all of them children," adding that another child was missing.

Such accidents are said to be frequent in DR Congo because of overcrowding.
