President Akufo-Addo Calls For Peaceful Resolution Of Chieftaincy Disputes

President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the Rule of Law works without fear or favour. 

He warned that those found on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with. 

The President's comments come days after a group of irate youth freed some party supporters in police custody in Karaga in the Northern Region. 

In the Upper West region, the District Chief Executive for Sissala West is reported to have fled after youth of the party stormed his office and accused him of sidelining them in the running of the district.

President Akufo-Addo condemned such actions and stressed the need for the culprits to be brought to book. 

The President said this at the annual Ngmayem Festival of the Chiefs and people of Krobo Odumase in the Eastern Region.  

The Ngmayem festival is a celebration of the abundant harvest of ngma otherwise called millet by the people of Manya Krobo. 

The occasion is used to thank God and ask for protection in the coming years.  There was a display of Ghana's rich culture of drumming and dancing. 

President Akufo-Addo thanked the people of Krobo for voting massively for the party which enabled it to win one seat in the area for the first time. 

He said major government policies like the FREE SHS and the restoration of Nursing Trainee Allowances are already bringing relief to Ghanaians.  

President Akufo said the Krobo area has the potential of becoming the transport corridor linking the sea port of Tema to the three regions of the north through the Volta Region. 

The President said these project can only materialize in absolute peace and called for an end to chieftancy disputes which impact negatively on the socio economic development. 

He said his government will ensure strict adherence to the rule of law.   

Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite offered to make available most of stool lands for farming and other development projects. 

He welcomed the restoration of nurses training allowance and urged traditional rulers to assist in the implementation of government flagship programmes.   

Students of Lower Manya Nursing and Midwifery Training College turned out in their numbers to express appreciation for restoring the trainee allowance.
