Spain eye maiden U-17 World Cup glory

After three weeks of intensive competition, the 2017 FIFA world cup comes to an end with an all European battle in the grand finale on Saturday. 

The European champions, Spain defeated Mali 3-1 to set a date with England following their surprised 3-1 victory over tournament’s favourite Brazil in the semifinals.

Spain had a shaky start in the competition but breathed life into their campaign with their 4-0 win over African side Niger in their second group game. 

The game is expected to produce a lot of goals with both sides expected to feature the two top scorers of the competition who are vying for the golden boot award.

Coach Santiago Denia will be expecting his lads to continue their recent dominance over Spain to grab their maiden U-17 world cup glory following a 4-1 win on penalties over the Three Lions after 90mins ended in a stalemate in the 2017 UEFA European U-17 championship.

Meanwhile, England who are yet to taste a defeat in the tournament will rely on Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster who is leading the goal king race with seven (7) goals to upset their Spanish counterparts for the giant trophy.

This will be the fourth encounter between Spain and England in the final in all competitions at this level. The first three happened in the UEFA U-17 European Championship where La Rojita were victorious in 2007, before the Three Lions took a revenge in 2010. The Spaniards once again triumph in May but only after a nail biting climax.

Meanwhile, the only surviving African side Mali will play against Brazil in the Salt Lake Stadium for the bronze medal in Kolkata.
