‘I followed due process in signing AMERI deal’ - Kwabena Donkor A former Minister of Energy, Dr Kwabena Donkor says the AMERI deal was reached by a negotiating team made up of the Volta River Authority, ECG, and the Energy Ministry. He said it is therefore wrong to say he signed a fraudulent deal by escalating the price. Appearing for the first time before the Committee on Mines and Energy, Dr Donkor said the AMERI plant is far cheaper and came with lower tariffs compared to other existing plants currently being used by Ghana. Dr Donkor said he followed due process in signing the 510 million dollar AMERI deal. The MP for Adansi Asokwa K.T Hammond, who was the ranking member of the Energy Committee of Parliament in 2015 when the deal was approved, told Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee on Wednesday that AMERI failed to live up to portions of the agreement presented to Parliament in March 2015. He said the emergency nature of the situation allowed him to look for efficient ways to solve the problem. Dr Donkor said though he was directly involved in the nitty-gritties of the deal, he ensured that due process was followed so that the country was not short-changed. Earlier, officials of AMERI Energy also met with the Mines and Energy Committee in camera. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
