Legislative Instrument on creation of new MMDAs to be laid before Parliament

A Legislative Instrument will be laid in Parliament, next week for the creation of new Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country. 

A source in government, made this known to Radio Ghana in the Ashanti Region Friday. 

It is expected that about 49 new Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts are to be created. 

The source hinted that about five sub-Metropolitan areas within Kumasi will be upgraded to Municipalities. 

Among the likely new Municipalities in Kumasi are Kwadaso and Oforikrom. 

There are presently 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts in the country with the Ashanti Region having thirty.
