WASH calls for strong commitment to fight open defecation

A WASH Technical Director with World Vision, Attah Arhin says steps to make Ghana an open defecation free country, is taking a gradual process.

He said education on the dangers associated with open defecation should be intensified.

In an interview with Radio Ghana's Bright Agamah, Mr Arhin called for a strong commitment from Ghanaians to fight the canker. 

The WASH Specialist with UNICEF, Lorretta Roberts, said Ghana's progress is challenging although about 1700 communities have become open defecation free. 

She said there is hope considering the fact that open defecation rate has dropped in the three regions of the north, as well as the commitment by some communities for a change. 

Madam Roberts called for construction of toilets in households as a means of enforcing the law.
