22 dead in central Nigeria boat mishap

Twenty two people have been confirmed dead following a boat mishap in central Nigeria. 

Spokesman for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency in central Nigeria, Hussaini Ibrahim, said seven people were rescued from the accident.

The incident occurred around Mahuta community in Agwara local area of the state when the boat hit a log of wood inside the river and capsized.
 
He said the deceased were traveling from Yauri, a town in the northwestern state of Kebbi to Manhuta, in Niger State.

Authorities say it has started investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
