2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier: Egypt to miss trio for crucial Congo clash

Egypt will host Congo without trio Abdallah El-Said, Hossam Ashour and Mahmoud Kahraba at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Teammates El-Said and Ashour sustained injuries during Al Ahly's CAF Champions League match and Kahraba suffered a leg injury.

Head coach Hector Cuper has replaced the trio with Moemen Zakareya, Hossam Hassan and Mohamed Fathi.

''Saleh Gomaa will be a suitable replacement for the injured Abdallah El-Said,'' Cuper said.

''I am convinced by the performance of Saleh Gomaa, as well as any player in the team squad who can participate, according to the needs of the game.

''Egypt’s national team will be affected by the absence of injured forward Kahraba.''

Egypt will qualify for their first World Cup since 1990 if they beat Congo and Ghana also defeat second-place Uganda in Kampala.
