Kintampo Waterfalls To Remain Closed


The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs. Catherine Afeku, has called for patience from those clamouring for the re-opening of the Kintampo Waterfalls as the reorganization of the attraction continues.  

According to the Tourism Minister, her Ministry will collaborate with stakeholders like the Chiefs of Kintampo and the Ghana Tourism Authority to come out with a reopening date later in the year.  

Mrs. Afeku was speaking when she made a stopped over at the Kintampo Waterfalls enroute to Tamale for World Tourism Day. 

Earlier this year the Nation was rocked by its worst disaster at a Tourist Site when close to 20 Patrons of the Kintampo Waterfalls, dominated by students, lost their lives during a rainstorm.  

The attraction, the most poplar in Bono-Ahafo has since been closed for recommendations from a safety audit conducted at the water fall to be implemented.  

Among these are construction work which are on going.  

Contractors on the project are the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Army and Captain Simon Adonawra is in command.

The Tourism Minister stopped over at the waterfalls with two bus loads of various groups in tow.  

Among them were Tourism Ambassadors consisting of Actors and Musicians as well as officials of the various Tourism related bodies.  

At the Waterfalls to welcome the Minister, were the Kyeremankuma Hene, Nana Effah Guakro and the Wangara Chief, Nana Fanyinama as well as officials of the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly.  

Mrs. Afeku in a brief address to the mini durbar, said very efforts  are being made to make the Kintampo Waterfall far better than it was before the unfortunate accident.  

She said an Legislative Instrument, (LI) will be introduced to spell out the roles the Municipal Assembly, the Chiefs and the GTA among others will play in running in the of the improved Kintampo Waterfalls.  

The Chief of Kyeremankuma, Nana Effah Guakro, for his part said there should be no rush to reopen the Kintampo Waterfall, rather all efforts must be directed at making the attraction better.  

On behalf of the Tourism Ambassadors, Veteran Musician, Nana Ampadu, called for no effort to e spared in conserving Ghana's culture.  

He also urged the Youth to respect Elders in Society.  

The Minister inspected the work going on at the Waterfalls, which include construction of an alternative stairway to the fall, construction of an entrance, an infirmary and landscaping by the Parks and Gardens.
