One-Dam-One-Village Destined for Irrigation Access for Farms-Deputy Agric Minister A Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dr. Sagre Bambangi says government's “One-Village-One-Dam policy was formulated to ensure every farm has access to irrigation and not necessarily to build a dam in every village. He said the nature of certain communities especially in the north will make it impossible for the construction of dams, adding that some communities do not have resources for farming hence they do not need the dams. Dr. Bambangi made these comments at a panel discussion on agriculture water management for the attainment of SGDs in Ghana. Water has been identified as integral to achieving many of the SDGs due to its role in economic development, human wellbeing and environmental health. In this regard, the International Water Management Institute is collaborating with governments towards achieving their water-related SDGs and ensure the efficient use of water to make it available to other sectors who need it. The Deputy minister Dr. Sagre Bambangi said the policy which will help solve the irrigation problem for farmers will not be found in every community. Head of the International water Management Institute-West Africa Dr. Olufunke Cofie proposed solutions to improve agriculture water management in the country The Deputy Minister later launched a book titled THE VOLTA RIVER BASIN which provides a roadmap to tackling issues pertaining to managing water for agriculture use.
