Labour Unions threaten nationwide demonstration over tier-2 pension All twelve labour Unions in the public sector have given government up to the 29th of this month to pay all deductions made on their tier two pension funds from 2010 to 2016, back to their respective fund managers else they will take to the streets. According to the labour unions, the accounts should be placed where interest can be accrued. Professor Emmanuel Asiamah who manages a pension’s fund, said government must ensure that the workers deductions are paid. Reacting to the two-week ultimatum given government by the public sector labour unions, Labour Expert Austin Gamey explained that the money is huge and may not make sense transferring it to one party or fund manager. In his view, the Bank of Ghana and the parties including the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations must make efforts to transfer the money as quickly as possible to the appropriate fund managers including the interest accrued, to avoid the growing acrimony among public sector workers.
