Police arrest demonstrators protesting ban against Small scale Mining The police in Ashanti are reported to have arrested some members of the Small Scale Miners Association who attempted to protest against the ban on their operations. According to reports the planned street protest turned chaotic when about 30 armed police personnel stormed the convergence point at the Gyamfua Memorial Park near the former Kumasi Brewery Limited. The police, fired teargas to restrain the demonstrators from embarking on the protest. The planned demonstration was eventually called off. The Regional Secretary of the Association, Kwabena Boakye said the protest has only been suspended but not cancelled. He added that the small scale miners will use all means to register their protest against the moratorium banning their operations by that deadline.
