GHS11,000 Worth Bore Hole Constructed For Krugu Community A bore hole and a church building has been constructed to cater for the Krugu community in Kandiga, a suburb of Kassena Nankana municipality of the Upper East region. The bore hole, valued at eleven thousand Ghana cedis is to provide the community with safe drinking water. Also the thousand-seat capacity church building for the St. Veronica parish church, aside preaching the gospel will also serve as a learning centre for school children in the community. The two projects were funded by the St. Albert the Great parish in the USA and Reverend Father Lazarus Anondee. History has it that the first church in Kandiga was established in the Krugu community, but according to community members they ended up without a church building for worshiping. The reason why the church was moved from the community was never explained. That notwithstanding the practice of Christian values was manifested in the way of life of both the old and young. This, they also exhibited in their active volunteerism attitude towards the construction of the St. Veronica Catholic church. The church begun its mission business in a classroom of the Krugu Roman Catholic School located within the community in 2011. From a humble beginning of 62 worshipers, the Catholic Church’s membership has now increased to 250 with 138 baptized. With the inauguration of the new church building, the St. Veronica Catholic church is hoping to continue growing its membership. Meanwhile, the borehole currently provides a solution to the various water problems confronting the Krugu community. These range from water borne diseases to the commuting of long distances in search of water. A situation which has affected the early attendance to school and church. In an interview with Ghana Today, Rev. Lazarus Anondee commended the St. Albert the Great parish for its immense contribution in the form of cash and other resources towards the construction of the St. Veronica Catholic Church building. He urged the people to take good care of the church building and borehole. The Chief of Krugu, Naba Henry Abawine Amenga-Etego expressed a profound gratitude to both Father Lazarus Anondee and the St. Albert the Great parish for the kind gesture. He also commended the people for contributing their might in the construction of the building and bore hole. Meanwhile, a representative of the St. Albert the Great Parish, Rev. Father Matthew Conley also called on the community members to strengthen their communal spirit. According to him unity and prosperity are the products of communal volunteerism. GBC
