UN stands with Finland following terrorist attack

A deadly attack in Finland has been condemned by the UN Secretary-General.

Authorities in the Nordic country are investigating it as a terrorist attack.

The incident occurred last Friday in the south-western city of Turku when a man stabbed two women to death in a market square.

Eight other people were injured before the suspect was shot in the leg and taken to hospital.

He was identified as an 18-year-old asylum seeker from Morocco.

UN Chief António Guterres condemned the terrorist attack and extended his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Finland.

He also wished a speedy recovery to the wounded, according to a statement issued on Saturday by his Spokesman.

“The United Nations stands in solidarity with the Government of Finland in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” the statement concluded.
