Government sets up watch volunteer group to fight illegal fishing The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Elizabeth Aforley Quaye says government will adopt the same strategy it adopted in the fight against illegal mining, to end illegal fishing in the country. She said watch volunteers groups have been set up to help fight the illegal activity. In an interview with Radio Ghana, Madam Quaye said some two hundred illegal fishermen have been arrested and others have been made to sign bonds not to go back to the act. Madam Aforley Quaye said Ghana has managed to eradicate pair trawling in the fishing industry. She said vessel monitoring stations have been set up at the Tema and Takoradi Habours to monitor industrial vessels. She announced that contracts for establishing 15 landing beaches have been signed and work on four of them will begin next year. On the issue of premix fuel, Madam Aforley Quaye said, the situation has improved, following the artificial shortage that hit the sector when TOR could not meet the high demand during the peak fishing season.
