Sierra Leone mudslides: Desperate dig for Freetown survivors The desperate dig for survivors has resumed in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown after mud slides and floods claimed the lives of more than 300 people. Their homes were engulfed after part of Sugar Loaf mountain collapsed following heavy rain early yesterday. Many of the victims were still asleep when the disaster struck. Vice-President Victor Foh, has warned the final death toll may be far higher. Another three thousand people are estimated to have lost their homes. The Freetown Mayor, Sam Gibson said a total of 270 bodies have been recovered and are being prepared for burial. SOURCE: BBC NEWS
