UN Boss, António Guterres condemns terror attack in Burkina Faso

The UN Secretary-General has condemned a terrorist attack that took place in Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou, on Sunday.

Eighteen people were killed when gunmen attacked a Turkish restaurant in the centre of the city, media reports say.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, António Guterres extended his "heartfelt condolences" to the Government and people of Burkina Faso and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

There can be no justification for such acts of indiscriminate violence, Mr. Guterres urged, as he reassured Burkina Faso of the UN's support in the country's fight against violent extremism and terrorism.

"He also reaffirmed the Organization's commitment to the countries of the G5 Sahel countries as they scale up their efforts to tackle multiple security challenges in order to promote peace and development in the sub-region." That's according to the UN Deputy Spokesperson, Farhan Haq  on the UN chief's statement.
