High-life Legend, Paapa Yankson To Be Buried October 21 A renowned Ghanaian high-life singer, songwriter, and producer, Benjamin Paapa Kofi Yankson, known as Paapa Yankson will be buried on October 21 at Apam in the Central Region of Ghana. His burial will be followed by the final funeral rites in Accra on the same day. The family of the late Paapa Yankson announced this at the one-week remembrance of the legend. The event which came off last Friday, August 4, at the Dansoman Keep Fit Grounds was graced by family, friends, some actors and actress and musicians, some of whom performed at the event. Musician, Akosua Agyapong and Hi-life great Nana Kwame Ampadu were amongst musicians who performed. The King Shabo Band backed the performances. Other musicians who showed up to show their support were A.B Crentsil, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, Diana Hopeson, Della Hayes, Lady Talata, Bessa Simons and Rex Omar. "I Go Pay You Tomorrow" hit star, A.B Crenstil, and "Agatha" singer Nana Kwame Ampadu paid glowing tributes and shared some fond memories of Paapa Yankson. Benjamin Paapa Kofi Yankson was born on June 22, 1944 at Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. He was born into a musical family with his father, Benjamin Akono Yankson, being a trumpeter with the Apam Brass Band, and his mother Akua Doma, a singer in the Christ Little Band of the Methodist Church. He attended Takoradi Methodist School for his primary education and proceeded to Ahantaman Secondary Commercial School, from which he graduated with a certificate in stenography. Throughout his early life, he had the desire to be a musician and would regularly sing along with his mother whenever she sung. His parents, though, wanted him to go into business He recorded two dozen albums during his career; his hit songs included "Wiase Mu Nsem", "Show Your Love", "Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame", and "Tena Menkyen". He won multiple awards, including Best Composition for his song "Yaaba" at the 1997 Konkomba Awards. He was a recipient of the Grand medal of Ghana for his contribution to Ghanaian music Paapa Yankson will be remembered for songs like ‘Abam Kofi’, ‘Okukuseku’, ‘Show Your Love’, ‘Jealousy’ and ‘Bebia Odo Wo’.
