UGCC 70th anniversary programme unveiled

The Anniversary Committee of the "Ghana 60 Years On "celebration has unveiled a programme to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).

This includes a memorial service at Saltpond where the UGCC was formed on Friday. 

Later in the day, the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye is expected to give a lecture on the topic 'Ghana`s Day of Destiny". 

Deputy Chief of Staff and Member of the Planning Committee, Abu Jinapor out lined the activities at a news conference at Flagstaff House.

United Gold Coast Convention, UGCC, was founded in August 1947 by educated Africans such as J.B. Danquah, A.G. Grant, R.A. Awoonor-Williams and Edward Akufo Addo at Saltpond. When UGCC was created, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was invited from London to become the movement's general secretary. He however broke away from the movement and created his Convention People's Party (CPP) in June 1949.
