Information Minister Reiterates Need To Deepen Democracy

The Minister for Information, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has reiterated the need to deepen the country’s democracy. 

This, he said can be done with the organization of prudent information dissemination processes to Ghanaians. 

According to him, this will give every citizen the opportunity to be informed on how the government utilizes tax payers’ money.  

Mr. Abdul-Hamid said this at the launch of a National Town Hall Meeting organized by the Ministry of Information and the Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development in Tema.

The Launch brought together Ministers, Members of Parliament, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Tema Traditional Council and a section of the general public. 

Mr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid noted that governance should not be politicized, calling on government representatives to work hand in hand with ordinary citizens for them to digest, suggest and critic government policies. 

The Minister, who doubles as the Presidential spokesperson added that government has put in place interventions to crate job opportunities for all Ghanaians.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama said the town hall meeting will be organized in all the 216 constituencies across the country. 

She urged the Assemblies to create the requisite environment to stimulate accountability and enhance decentralization policies. 

She also charged the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to make progress in its revenue mobilization and not to rely on the Common Fund.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey appealed to NGOs, International Organizations and the Private sector to partner the Regional Coordinating Council, RCC, and the MMDAs to create a conducive environment for wealth creation for the benefit of Ghanaians.
