Governance Experts urge strict adherence to rules guiding proceedings in Parliament

Governance Expert, Dr Eric Oduro Osae says the unfortunate incident in Parliament Thursday does not augur well for Ghana's democracy. 

He said Minority parties will always complain of unfair treatment, but the rules and procedures of the House must be strictly followed to avoid a recurrence of these lapses.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Dr. Osae said for far too long the rules guiding proceedings in the House have been relaxed and the time has come for Parliament to work according to its own rules. 

Meanwhile, a Governance Expert, Fred Oduro Agyarko, says Ghanaians should not be worried much about the rumpus in Parliament.

He described the occurrence as healthy in the context of competitive multi-party democracy. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana in Accra, Mr. Oduro said it is important to see the opposition party striving to get the space needed to provide quality opposition required in such a democratic era. 

He however added that the heckling should be exercised in moderation.

On the threat of possible impeachment of the Speaker by the Minority, Mr Oduro Agyarko emphasised that the Minority will not succeed and urged them to use other means to ensure maximum cooperation.
