Media lauded for efforts in checking human trafficking

Deputy Commandant of the Ghana Police Academy and Training School, DSP Patience Quaye has lauded the media for collaborating with the police and other relevant agencies in checking human trafficking and child labour in the country. 

She was presenting a paper on the difference between human trafficking and migrant smuggling at a two day capacity building workshop in Accra for the media on counter trafficking and irregular migration.
 
She said currently a national plan of action on human trafficking is being drafted to check what she called modern day slavery. 

The National Coordinator of the Ghana NGO Coalition on the Rights of the Child, Barima Akwasi Amankwaah, said human trafficking schemes are constantly evolving and the media's vigilance will help keep the public informed and engaged.
 
The Executive Secretary of Defence for Children International, DCI Ghana, Dr George Oppong called on the media to champion the cause of the vulnerable such as victims of human trafficking especially against girls and women.
 
The media training is being organised by the Ministry of Gender, children and Social Protection in collaboration with Plan International and Ghana Journalist Association.
