21st July, 2017 The Daily Graphic thinks the inability to pass the all-important Right to Information Bill is very worrying. It says it is not only members of the media fraternity that will benefit from the passage of the bill. According to the paper the bill when passed will embolden Ghanaians to hold their leaders, especially government accountable and provide access to official imformation held by public and private institutions. The paper therefore express satisfaction with President Akufo Addo's address on the issue at the 2017 Africa Open Data Conference stating his government's resolve to speed up the passage of the long overdue Right To Information bill by Parliament. The Ghanaian Times supports the appeal by the Forum For Members of Parliament, to the current parliament to intervene on their behalf with a support scheme for members after their exit from the legislature. According to the paper, Parlimentarians contribute immensely to the socio-political development of the country, no matter which divide they belong to. It is however puzzled how successive governments neglect former law makers whose living standards continue to deteroriate. The Times is of the view that these group of people should have a comfortable place in society to continue to place their expertise and rich experience gathered during their tenure in Parliament at the disposal of the country. The Daily Heritage calls on the Police to deal with "hit and run' drivers whose activities have maimed people for many years now. The paper says stories are told of how criminals are left off the hook moments after they are arrested because it is alleged that the Police have been compromised. It cites a recent accident at Offinso-Sanproso in the Ashanti region where a six year old pupil was knocked down by a driver who later sped off. The little boy according to the paper has lost both legs. The Daily Heritage hopes the Police will arrest and deal with the driver to serve as deterrent to others. It also appeals to those who lynch drivers who stop when they hit people to halt that practice. GBCONLINE
