Minority Calls For Withdrawal Of Special Prosecutor Bill

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called on government to withdraw the Special Prosecutor Bill 2017 which was laid in the House on Tuesday, July 18. 

The Caucus says the House did not sufficiently follow dictates of the Standing Orders in tabling the Bill. 

Quoting Order 78 (i) of the Standing Orders, the Minority Chief Whip Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka said copies of the Bill were not made available to members at the time of laying the Bill. 

To this end, the Bill needed to be withdrawn. Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka raised the concern on the Floor of the House.

The Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu responded by saying there were some copies as of last Tuesday when the Bill was tabled and additional copies were been printed in the evening when portions of Job 600 were in flames and they had to evacuate the building. 

He shot down the request of the Minority for the withdrawal of the Bill.
