“Do Not Trust Your Ministers Like President Mahama Did” Whiles journalists were in the Flagstaff house flooding President Akufo Addo with questions, GBCONLINE hit the streets trying to find out what the average person had to ask the president if they had the opportunity. For this man, there was one nagging thing to push and the president must hear of it. “Do not trust your Ministers like what our former President Mahama did. That is what led to his defeat in the last election”. He further stated that the President should not allow corrupt Ministers whose main motive is to steal taxpayers' money to go free but rather bring them to book and allow the law to take its course. Everything must be taken from them and given to the needy. Another gentleman from the Northern Region wanted to know when the one district one dam is commencing in the North and also when the one million, one constituency policy will take effect. This gentleman was also concerned about the Dollar rate which is inching upwards presently. He wanted to know since it formed part of the promises made during the campaign period and it influenced the voters. One suggested that the President should see to the welfare of Teachers and increase their salaries to make teaching attractive to the young ones coming up because the present-day youth do not want to become teachers and it is a worrisome situation. They also talked about our bad roads especially, the cocoa roads and also the roads in some of the Regions. Their main worry is that contractors have abandoned work on the roads making them more dangerous than they were before. A Nigerian who was visiting the country for the first time and had been around for a week corroborated the observation on some of our roads and asked for them to be worked on immediately. He was also concerned about our security situation. He further stated that some public organisations are threatening to go on strike especially the Judiciary. “What is he doing for the educational sector?” He was forthcoming with other questions unlike most of his Ghanaian counterparts we came across. However, not all had questions for the president. Others just wanted to express their support for him. They pleaded with Ghanaians to give the President more time since he has been there for just six months. They also pleaded with the President to work on the promise he made to Ghanaians to make Ghana a better place. After six months in office, the President Nana Akufo Addo met the media together with some of his ministers to respond to a broad range of questions. This is a way of helping transparency in the governance system and also accounting to the people on what has been done so far. The meeting tried to clarify some happenings over the period and offer a peep into the plans ahead. It is the first of such meetings after the 100 days in office event. It is proposed that there will be such encounters twice every year. Story: Mabel Adorkor Annang GBCONLINE
