NPA Institutes National Safety Day

The National Petroleum Authority, NPA has instituted a National Safety Day to be observed once a year to draw attention to the importance of observing petroleum safety protocols by all stakeholders.

The Chief Executive of the Authority, Alhassan Tampuli disclosed this during an engagement with the media in the Western Region to court their help in the campaign to reduce petroleum related accidents in the country. 

This he said is in line the with the 2017 National Safety Campaign which is on the the theme, "People Safety First".

This comes in the wake of the fifteen cases of petroleum related fire incidents in the first quarter of this year.  

The authority also intends to train and certify the chain of workers in the downstream petroleum industry. 

These include managers of petrol and gas filling stations and their workers as well as drivers and mates of Bulk Road Vehicles who transport petroleum products.

Touching on safety concerns on the siting of gas filling station in communities, Mr. Tampuli explained that,  the issue rather has to do with the strict adherence of all safety standard procedure as pertains in other jurisdictions. 

He said, their concern is to ensure that, safety integrity of filling stations is impeachable to protect life and property.
