Engineer backs government's call to construct major roads with concrete

A Civil Engineer, Ben Arthur has backed government's call to construct the country's road with concrete. 

He however says due to the costly nature of constructing concrete roads, the exercise should be limited to the major roads which he describes as the national roads. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mr Arthur said the idea is laudable as concrete roads stand the test of time but was quick to add, that Ghana cannot stop asphalting roads entirely since there are feeder roads. 

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that as part of government’s resolve to build roads in the country with concrete, they have decided to begin with the Tema Steel Works road as a pilot project.

According to him, they have realized that it is less expensive and long lasting as compared to asphalted or bitumen roads which give out after a few seasons rain.

Dr. Bawumia made the disclosure while speaking at the dedication of a temple for Harvest Chapel International in Accra on Saturday.
