UTAG gives Government 2 weeks to pay allowances, constitute Councils
 
The University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG, is on a collision course with government over the non-constitution of University Councils and delays in the release of book and research allowances for the 2016 / 2017 academic year.  

UTAG is therefore giving government a two week ultimatum to pay the allowances and constitute the Councils.
 
UTAG President Dr. Harry Agbanu said if government does not meet the ultimatum, the National Electoral Commission will decide on its next line of action.

UTAG has also expressed fierce resistance to a government policy that requires Universities to pay 34 percent of all IGFs to government. 
 
Dr. Agbanu said UTAG will go to every length to oppose this policy.

Meanwhile Parliament's Education Committee has expressed its readiness to intervene in the looming conflict between government and UTAG.
 
Deputy Ranking Member and MP for Bia West, Dr. Augustine Tawiah says the Committee might summon the Education Minister to explain what is causing the delay in the formation of the University Councils.
