Ghana Police Cautions Public Sector Workers Over Fraudsters

The Ghana Police Service has warned public sector workers to be wary of fraudsters who have devised new strategies to defraud them.  

In a statement issued in Accra, and signed by Chief Inspector David Fianko-Okyere, it said the fraudsters pose as staff of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to lure unsuspecting public sector workers to pay them various sums of money under the threat of freezing their salaries. 

According to the statement these fraudsters place telephone calls to unsuspecting public sector workers requesting their biometric social security numbers for a purported account reconciliation.

In the course of communication, the fraudsters demand some unspecified amount from the workers and then truncate communication thereafter.  

The statement is therefore asking members of the public especially public sector workers not to share their personal details on phone and other social media platforms with anyone. 

They should report any suspicion to the nearest Police Station.
