Ghana Marks 57th Republic Day

On March 6, 1957, Ghana became the first African country South of the Sahara to gain political independence from Britain. 

Despite that historic feat, the British Monarch still remained the ceremonial Head of State of the country for another three years. 

It was on July 1, 1960 that Ghana’s colonial umbilical cord was completely cut off from the United Kingdom. That brought complete freedom and independence and positioned Ghana to handle her own affairs. 

Fifty-seven years down the line, how historic is this day especially to the present generation as it has designated senior citizens day?
