Budgetary allocation to promote local languages is necessary - Prof Agyekum The Acting Dean of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana Legon , Prof Kofi Agyekum, says years back, Ghana had a policy to use mother language as a medium of instruction from primary one to three before resorting to the use of English as the means of instruction. However, the policy is not being implemented to the letter. Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana to mark World Mother Language Day, Prof. Agyekum, said Ghana has the foundation already, what is important now is for government to dedicate budgetary allocation to implement the policy consciously to enable the nation benefit from the science of language in development. Prof. Agyekum also suggested the establishment of national and regional linguistic centres to support the publication of books in the local languages to enhance the use of mother language in the country.
