TUC makes proposals on economy for 2017 budget The Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) has made key proposals on various aspects of the economy for the 2017, budget statement which it says will empower workers. In a 17-page document the umbrella organisation of unionised workers made key recommendations on employment, labour administration, earnings, pensions, taxation, housing and the IMF-sponsored Extended Credit Facility (ECF), and the concessionaire agreement for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that it hopes will be considered in the first budget statement of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. TUC has urged managers of the economy to incorporate the recommendations in the upcoming budget as they “provide a good basis for engagement between government and labour on these and other issues affecting workers and their families. On the concessionaire agreement for the power distributor, for instance, TUC says private sector participation in power distribution will not secure its objective of stable power if supply side challenges are not addressed. The TUC believed that Ghana can deal with these challenges and urged the government to pull out of this deal if the MCC is not willing to review the Compact. GBC
