Access to information is needed to "escape marginalization"- World Blind Union


"Information is power" but people with vision impairments simply have no access to the vast majority of what's written down.

That's according to Fredric Schroeder, the president of the World Blind Union, an international organization that has consultancy status with the United Nations.

Mr. Schroeder said that only around five per cent of printed materials are accessible to people with vision impairments, and that was a "generous estimate".

Speaking to the lead up to World Radio Day, marked on 13 February, he said access to stations helped people with vision impairments integrate better into their local communities.
