Equal Opportunity To Women Farmers

Surveys by stakeholders such as the Ghana Statistical Service and the Institute of Economic Affairs have shown that many women are challenged in various aspects of life despite numerous interventions targeted at them. Their role as helpers from the religious perspective has been wrongly defined such that in the name of this role they are constantly overloaded with work right from the home to wherever they find themselves. In the agricultural sector, most women encounter avoidable challenges that impede their development. Women farmers in the Sissala East District, one of the largest contributors to agriculture in the region, are faced with worrying episodes as they strife to make high yields from their activities. GBC's Lydia Darlington Fordjour reports that the plight of the women can be reduced if they are given equal access to resources and opportunities.
