AFCON 2017: Winner Cameroon awarded Presidential medals

Cameroon won the final of the Africa Cup of Nations after beating Egypt 2-1 on Sunday        (Feb. 5) in Libreville to become the champion.

The final heated up with a goal in the 22nd minute for Egypt by M. Elneny and later leveled by Cameroon from a beautiful goal from Nkoulou in the 60th minute.

The winner was decided in the 89th minute when Aboubakar scored to make Cameroon the champions of Africa.

1. The team is grateful to the President and his wife for their well wishes

2. He reiterates that beyond the trophy Cameroon won the best player, best goalie awards

3. He adds that players from the team dominated the tournament's best 11

4. Says they are not relenting on their strides moving forward

President Paul Biya's address centered on among others:

a. Lauds the players and technical team, says a united Cameroon can surmount all its challenges.

b. Congratulates Gabon for hosting the event and says they were "most deserving winners"

c. Sounds warning to the world, "the Lions are coming"

d. Urge the people to rally around the victory to push Cameroon further forward.
