Army Worms invade Farms across Ghana

Large acres of farms across Ghana have been invaded by army worms which have destroyed crops completely. 

The worms which are new to the system have no known pesticides available to destroy them, thus raising fears of food shortage in the country. 

The BBC in a report two days ago warned of threat to food security and farmers livelihoods due to the army worms that have spread across Africa. 

It said experts are calling for urgent action while the FAO plans an emergency on the issue. 

According to a joint research undertaken by the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) and the Ministry of Agriculture, samples of crops collected from areas in five regions show that the situation is widespread. 

Brigitta Oppong Mensah, the Plantwise Coordinator for CABI said this could lead to a 100% crop loss.
